Quick info...

To help you briefly understand some TOP therapy approaches:

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is designed to decrease stressed thoughts and feelings associated with trauma and/or stress. Therapists trained in EMDR use bilateral stimulation with a set of protocols to facilitate the accessing and processing of traumatic/ stressed memories.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a leading modality in many therapies today, it is a way to bring intention to attention, through non-judgment and curiosity. It allows for a moment to moment noticing of thoughts, sensations and feelings. Jon Kabbat Zinn's work is very helpful, please see link below. As he said, "Wherever you go there you are."

Trauma Focused Care

To look at therapy through a trauma lens. Focused on the understanding of trauma through the work of Peter Levine and Bessel van der Kolk. As Bessel states "The body keeps the score" from his BOOK "The Body Keeps the Score."

Somatic Awareness

Somatic awareness reduces stress and anxiety, through titrating the autonomic nervous system and discharging stress.  Some of the leading somatic approaches are: Pat Odgen's Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing as well as Ron Kurtz's work in Hakomi.

Parts Work
